Method steps

Suggested batch

8+ portions

Section 1

Filling

  1. Take the bramley apple and slice in half but just off-centre to avoid the core. Take the half with the core and follow the same step - repeat until you're left with a rather square looking apple core and 4 large segments of apple
  2. Discard the core and cut the apple into 0.5cm slices
  3. Distribute the sliced apples evenly across oven-safe tray(s) and compress down firmly with a fist
  4. Sprinkle over golden caster sugar

Section 2

Crumble

  1. Combine plain flour and golden caster sugar in a bowl with a pinch of salt
  2. Make breadcrumbs by slicing in the salted butter and rubbing the mix between your fingertips. Do this until the mix looks like blended breadcrumbs
  3. Evenly distribute the crumble mix over the apples

Section 3

Freeze

  1. Wrap or cover the container(s), ensuring they're air tight. If you're using clingfilm, close with a sticker because clingfilm loses its stickiness when frozen
  2. Add to your Nomventory and store in the freezer - it should be good for 60-90 days

Section 4

Defrost

  1. Defrost fully in the fridge. This should take around 24 hours, so take it out of the freezer the night before you need it

Section 5

Bake

  1. Set the oven to 170 degree fan (any hotter and you'll crisp instead of caramelise)
  2. Cook for 30-40 minutes - the top should be golden brown
